Starting the New Year at the Vets

Coming home to a backyard full of blood was NOT one of my resolutions

Happy New Year !

I hope you've had a relaxing holiday period filled with family and friends. Until New Year's Eve, I could say the same for myself.

The end of the work year went smoothly, although a video of me singing YMCA at the staff Christmas party now exists (which I hope to never see again). Christmas was spent spoiling my pets over breakfast, laughing with loved ones at lunch, then stuffing our faces with even more food at dinner. Plus, a stack of new books joined my shelves on Boxing Day.

But, alas, my 47kg American staffy x mastiff, Mowgli, had other plans for the new year. We arrived home at 1.30am on January first to find blood splattered all over our backyard. At first, I thought they must've caught another possum. Then I followed the blood trail. $2k later, it turns out my big boofhead had sliced open his toe to almost bone.

He's now on bed rest and a bucket load of medications that makes me so grateful for pet insurance. The good news is, I'm still on holidays and can watch his recovery to make sure his stitches remain untouched. The bad news? No more days out with Ian until it's safe to leave Mowgli in the backyard unsupervised.

You would think, with all this extra time I now have to sit at home, I would smash some word count goals to start my 2025 strong. I have big plans for this year, including a trip to Tasmania in August for a conference. And yet, here I am with only 525 words under my belt and zero motivation. If you have any tips or tricks to kick my ass into gear, don't be afraid to send them my way.

If you've made it this far through my email, you deserve a little treat. I've joined another newsletter giveaway for January and this one is all for my clean fantasy readers. The books only require an email to download and they're yours for FR33 😍

Thank you for sticking around with me for another year. I appreciate all of your support more than you realise 😊
