Hey y’all. Summer is finally winding down here. It hasn’t been as hot and the cooler weather is welcome. While I am not looking forward to winter, it is nice to have a break from the heat.
So this past weekend, I had the opportunity to attend an interiority workshop. If you don’t know what interiority is, I’ll explain. This is text from book two: I’m the same five nine and a half I’ve been since I was thirteen. I’ve lost a little weight since mom died and I hate to admit that I don’t mind that. Even though my ribs are starting to show a little bit, it doesn’t look horrible…. That’s interiority. Every book in existence has it. I do it without thinking about it, but apparently, I don’t do it enough.
I learned so much. We looked at three different examples To Kill a Mockingbird, Hunger Games, and Outlander. We examined the movie and the book. In the movie, you have facial expressions, body language and movement to express what you’re trying to convey. Obviously, you don’t have that in the novel. In a movie, you have 2 ½ hours (roughly) to express what you only have words to get across in the novel. It made me realize how important the words I chose are.
In writing news, book two is coming along slowly. I actually plotted this one so I know where I’m going, it’s just getting there. I’ve been so wrapped up in trying to make sure chapter one is perfect so I have a solid foundation to work with. But I’m getting there. I think I finally got chapter one nailed, so I’ve been writing forward.
