I've just finished this book and wholeheartedly recommend it to you. (thank you, Govinda for the recommendation!)

The Psychology of Totalitarianism

I think this book should be mandatory for anyone who does not want to be manipulated and wishes to live on his terms. The author, Mattias Desmet, a professor of psychology, explains in depth the mechanism of mass formations and how it becomes a gateway to the totalitarian regime.

In his book, Desmet explains what exactly has to happen for people to stop thinking for themselves and how media, big companies and politicians use these phenomena for their gains.

In the book, you will also learn why some people (30% of the population, sic!) always believe in a given (only true) narrative while people from the opposite side are quick to create the most fantastic conspiracy theories.

He illustrates his finding with examples of Nazi Germany, Stalin's Gulags and the recent coronavirus pandemic.

I was shocked to learn that around 60% of the population will accept lies and manipulations just for peace of mind, to go with the flow, and to belong.

Those whose moral compass doesn't allow them to obey blindly are in the minority, but it doesn't mean they cannot fight back. In the contrary, they must resist.

Knowing the processes behind the creation of mass formation will allow you to see and react to it early enough.

The author gives us potent weapons. He makes a solid case for telling the truth at all costs and the importance of nurturing deep human connections.

I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did.

Best regards
