FRIDAY . 25 . 03. 22 .

Good morning everyone and happy "the Pilliga Ultra is finally happening" weekend!

This email is being sent whilst out FWP team is either in the Pilliga or en route. We're all super excited to actually meet one another, meet some of our wonderful followers and connect with the local community.

This week's newsletter will focus on FWP membership, our amazing partners and The Pilliga Ultra event. Happy reading folks.

FWP FOUNDING MEMBERSHIP

image

As you will have seen in our previous emails, For Wild Places has finally launched our Founding Membership program! This has been in the works for a while, and we are so stoked to finally have it out in the open for you to come and join us in a tangible way.

We wanted to dive a little deeper into what this membership means for us, and for you! If you’ve already made up your mind and you’re keen to join us, feel free to go right ahead.

If you’re curious for a little more info, read on!

This membership exists so that people like you, who love our work and are tuned in to our mission, can come on board and support the work we do in a sustainable, meaningful way.  We know that supporting the important work FWP is doing to protect wild places is often incentive enough! But we’re also fortunate enough to have some really incredible membership partners supporting us in this journey, and we want to make you a part of that!

We’re so excited to offer you the following, when you become a FWP Founding Member:

  • Tarkine: 20% off all gear.
  • Trail Brew: 10% off online purchases
  • Adventure Entertainment: free, 6-month subscription to Adventure+ and a free edition of Wild magazine for the first 50 sign ups
  • Patagonia: 30% discount on a one-off purchase (for the first 50 sign ups)

WHY THESE AMAZING PARTNERS?

It’s important to us to partner with brands that not only produce quality gear but align with our values. After all, the stuff we wear and consume is meaningless if we don’t care for our planet and future! Here’s why we chose the partners we did...

Tarkine

image

Tarkine are known for their high performance running shoes, and valuing environmental responsibility above all else. They direct much needed money to the frontline fight against the destruction of old growth rainforests and are working towards a carbon neutral business model.

Trail Brew

image

Trail Brew is an Australian-made drink for endurance sports. With its simple yet effective ingredients it's one of the most affordable brews on the market. Run by keen outdoor enthusiasts, Trail Brew is continually being shaped by feedback by the community of endurance athletes.

Adventure Entertainment

image

Adventure Entertainment, driven by a spirit of entrepreneurialism and disruption, wants to inspire people to get out and adventure. They do this through their films, events and magazines – including Trail Run Mag.

Patagonia

image

Patagonia is in business to save our home planet. They donate time, services and at least 1% of sales to help hundreds of grassroots organisations do their thing to protect irreplaceable eco-systems and wild places.

Sound amazing and want in?

We hope you love our amazing membership partners as much as we do!

THE PILLIGA ULTRA

Yewww, one more sleep!!! After multiple postponements (cheers covid), its finally Pilliga Ultra eve. FWP CEO Hilary McAllister headed up on Tuesday and has been on site clearing and marking tracks, with a lot of help from locals.

image

Participants will finally get to explore the route that Freddie and Nick planned back in July 2021.

Tomorrow, more than 110 runners from across the country will participate in one of three events - 50km, 20km or 6km - to show their support to protect the Pilliga Forest.

The local community is invited to attend the event to add to the incredible energy and atmosphere, and help cheer runners over the finish line. I'm pretty sure I can vouch for any runner when I say that cheers of encouragement are always welcome.

The Pilliga. As a participant myself, I am so excited to explore this area. Although this photo is stunning, I have no doubt that the immersive experience will be even more overwhelming.

Participating in the Pilliga Ultra, either as a runner or volunteer, provides a unique opportunity to learn more about the Gomeroi people, their country and stand in solidarity with locals against destructive coal seam gas mining in the Pilliga-Narrabri area.

A NOTE FOR PARTICIPANTS

Please make sure that you:

  • Download the map to Avenza Maps
  • Bring all mandatory gear (best to pack for 'wet weather' conditions, and then omit items)
  • Re-read the event booklet, sent to you in an email earlier this week
  • Travel safe
  • Get excited!!! We're looking so forward to meeting you.

NEXT WEEK

Stay tuned for next week's newsletter, which will be filled with stories, interviews and photos from tomorrow's event.

We appreciate the support. Happy Trails and, as always, thank you for taking the time to support wild places!
