FRIDAY . 21 . 01 . 22 .

Welcome back, friends! We hope this finds you well rested and inspired after an adventure filled summer break.

The For Wild Places team enjoyed a well deserved, and long overdue break after the hecticness of 2021, and plenty of fun was had in the mountains, in the surf and everywhere in between.

To kick off 2022, we have a few updates for you, a call for support from our climbing friends and some recommendations to kick-start a year of action and impact.

PROJECT: RUN FOREVER

Postponed until 8th April 2022

Tom smiling through another event postponement

Today was supposed to be the day Tom Batrouney set off at Manly Dam to run lap after lap as part of Project: Run Forever. Thanks to old mate COVID, we have made the decision to push back the event to April 8th 2022. We are excited to welcome a whole host of supporters and sponsors to the Project, and invite you to check out the event website and for those on Gadigal land, pencil in the weekend of Friday 8th - 10th to join us at Manly Dam.

ClimbingQTs NEED YOUR SUPPORT!

A call to action for the outdoors community

QT's enjoying the delights of Dyurrite/Mt Arapailes

This week, our friends at ClimbingQTs put out a call to action, asking for financial support their LGBTQ+ climbing community through 2022 and beyond. ClimbingQTs has grown from a small social club to a community with over 500 active members, making them the largest rock climbing club in Australia. They host over 50 events each year, including 'get out to climb' trips, monthly meet ups, training camps, and more!

They are seeking potential collaborators and sponsors to provide reliable financial support to keep ClimbingQTs up and running. If you work with, or know of, a company, brand or organisation that would like to support ClimbingQTs, reach out to Riley Edwards (they/them), QTs President, to talk some more at riley@climbingqts.com

See more from ClimbingQTs via their website or social media.

WATCH: THE PILLIGA PROJECT

A film by Natalie Haddad

image

Today is the premiere of 'The Pilliga Project', a film by Natalie Haddad about the plight of the Pilliga Forest. The film explores the devastating impacts the NSW Government approved Santos's Narrabri Gas Project will have on the Pilliga Forest and the Great Artesian Basin which lies underneath.

After the film screening, there will be a live panel with the film maker, a Narrabri local and an experienced activist. For those in Sydney, you can head along to the in-person screening at 107 Project in Redfern (register here) or tune in online.

We are excited to share this film with the FWP community again over the coming months, in the lead up to the Pilliga Ultra on March 26th. You can find out more about the Pilliga Ultra here, including our 12 week training plans for the PU6, PU20 and PU50.

READ: NOT A DATE TO CELEBRATE

Blog article by Taneshia Atkinson

January 26th is just around the corner, and the great people at Clothing The Gaps have published this excellent article by Yorta Yorta woman Taneshia Atkinson titled Not a Date to Celebrate: 8 things to know about Jan 26. This article explores the history of 'Australia Day', and outlines why this date, and its patriotic celebrations are disrespectful to the Traditional Owners of this land we call Australia.

Here at FWP, we acknowledge January 26th as a Day of Mourning, and will take Wednesday 26th as an opportunity to listen and learn more about the worlds longest surviving culture, of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Other ways you can show your support include Paying the Rent , wearing your values on your tee, through Clothing the Gaps' apparel range and supporting the Free the Flag movement.
