Onward and Upward Newsletter - May 2022

Hi,

So, all was well in UK, but it's always nice to be back home in Ireland. The drive was tiring, as usual, but without incidents. Robin must have contracted Covid in the last few days in UK, but recovered quickly enough. I avoided it, but I have a suspicion that I had it back in November, though I didn't get tested. The 'experts' say it won't be over until everyone has had a dose, and even though many people are still wearing masks around the shops, my whole family has abandoned them. Strangely, I almost feel guilty going to the shops without one. The social changes wrought by the pandemic have yet to be realised in full. And presently our hospitals are being inundated with people who have contracted the latest version, and should really just stay at home. The waiting time for people in queues for operations has been extended by years, and a local man who fell down and broke his hip and arm waited 18 hours for an ambulance because of unnecessary calls that ambulance drivers are obliged to respond to in turn.

Home Front Renovations - Keeping Warm

I did post a few of these images in a newsletter a while back, but here is the full photo story of our attempt to keep warm. And a few days ago I found a new pine door in a charity shop for 30 euros (I just love those bargains!) to replace the old painted one in the image. Another job waiting to be completed, pulling out the door frame and replacing it, before the new door can be fitted.

Authorly News

Thank to those readers who took the second book in the 'Suffer the Little Children' series, and especially to Sherie for the first review so far. Here are the links, again: Goodreads Amazon Bookbub

I have invested in a little bit of advertising in June for The Silence of Children, being the first book in the series, so if anyone has read the book and has not posted a review, I would appreciate your help to give this book a bit of a kick start (The first book in the series is free from the link on the image). I have now received back the professionally designed covers, which hadn't arrived when I sent the last email out. And there's also a clue to the third in the series, which is presently on pre-order, with a mock-up cover. I aim to get this book out before the end of the year, but the best laid plans of mice and men...

I have made headway into my book for consideration by Bookoutre, but nothing in this world is set in stone. An author friend has just had her second book rejected by her publisher because it wasn't similar enough to the first, and they didn't like the male Point of View. I thought the book had great promise. Maybe you would be interested in her first, due out 12th May, atmospherically set in my part of Ireland.

*** BOOKS FREE OR ON OFFER (mostly) ***

I don't have time to check every book that comes via a book funnel, or a 'swap' promotion with another author, so, if you get a short story or a sample, a badly written book, or anything else that you find irritating, let the author know; don't shoot the messenger! Oh, and even if you choose not to take any of the books from the offers below, do click on some links! It helps my share statistics!

If you're new to my list, and are willing to post an online review of one of my books, email me and I will send you a link to the book of your choice.

I welcome feedback on my writing.

Happy Reading
