Onward and Upward Newsletter - August 2023
Aug 01, 2023 1:40 pm
Hi,
In turn, the sun has shone, the rain has fallen, the wind has blasted... but life is presently viewed from behind glass as I beaver away at my writing obligations. One little thing that fell in my lap this month was a kitten. Discovered starving and dirty in my polytunnel, with a touch of cat flu, he's now well fed and getting better. I was worried about introducing him to the deerhound, (bred to hunt) but the kitten walked up and batted her on the nose for looking too aggressive!
AUTHORLY NEWS
Everything is going forward with Bookoutre. The first book has been through a hefty constructive edit (the editor is a brilliant plot analyst), and there has been a bundle of behind the scenes action: book covers have been commissioned, outside editing is underway, and there is a splash posted today, on their website, about me having been commissioned to write women's fiction (under another name.

I have finally commissioned a book cover designer to create new covers for the 'Suffer the Little Children' series. Here are the designer's first options. All the covers will feature moody urban backgrounds in varying shades, so the decision is more about the positioning of the writing... Personally, I love the use of water and reflections. Any comments/thoughts/preferences?

I don't have time to read every book that comes via a book funnel, or a 'swap' promotion with another author, so if you get a sample, a badly written book, or anything else that you find irritating, let the author know, by way of a review; don't shoot the messenger!
Even if you choose not to take any of the books from the offers, do please click on some links - it would help my 'share' statistics. I have been refused entry to some promotions as my share rate isn't high enough; book funnels are dominated by some very aggressive authors. I admit to being a social mediaphobe and live in the hope that writing quality beats the ability to bludgeon my way into readers' kindles.
Happy Reading
You have probably received this newsletter because you have accepted one of my books from a promotion. I do hope you wish to continue to follow both my publishing journey, and my storyboards of life here in Ireland, but if not, there is an unsubscribe button below.
