Hi,

After weeks of of frenzied house renovation activity, the builders have finished and gone, leaving us to tip away at the remaining work (see the story below).

We acquired two extra dogs to look after for a while: respectively, our son's half-breed Irish wolfhound, and a year old Collie who had been rescued, only for his new owner to die unexpectedly. Both dogs were affectionate and happy and got on well with our two (The young Scottish Deerhound and the older Collie), but the house was bedlam for a while. One of them (we didn't catch the culprit at it), dug holes in the lawn, and another chewed up the bedding... Our son had been thinking of getting another dog to keep his older one company, and has taken on the young Collie, so that is a happy ending; and we have reverted to relative sanity with just our own two dogs.

I have been able to get back to a bit of writing, which was on hold for a while, but we are now expecting friends from UK at any moment, who we haven't seen for three years, so everything will be on hold again... We will be obliged to lounge about, exchange stories, eat, drink, and play jigs and reels... It so hard fitting everything in now we're retired!

The ongoing story: For several years while renovating and building our Irish wreck, we have been patching up the roof as the old natural slates gradually disintegrated. Finally we bit the bullet and commissioned local roofers. Click the image to see the picture-story.
