Onward and Upward Newsletter - July 2022
Jul 04, 2022 10:11 am
Hi,
This month has been manic. First, my brother brought my 90-year-old Mum from England for a visit; the first time she's been able to visit us in several years. We had a great time delving in charity shops for bargains, taking short walks and long scenic drives. Provided a tip by a friend, we discovered an amazing old graveyard right on the coast, which is a wild-flower haven. A wild flower meadow is such a beautiful and rare sight these days, and to find it dotted with several types of orchids, including this stunning bee orchid, was surreal.
And finally (sans Mum) a serene evening canoe on Loch Hyne rounded off the holiday. We left the camera at home and paddled a silent circuit as night fell. No transport noise, not even the sound of the sea, just the odd cooing of birds settling for the night, and a light dusting of rain. A disturbed Egret glided past us, large fish and sea anemones were visible through crystal clear water... Loch Hyne, once an inland fresh water lough, inundated by seawater around 2000 BC, is a nature reserve and place of special scientific interest, but is being polluted by spill-off from intensive farming, and overrun by invasive foreign species drifting in on the tide.
Home Front - No more Leaks!
The ongoing story: For several years while renovating and building our Irish wreck, we have been patching up the roof as the old natural slates gradually disintegrated. Finally we bit the bullet and commissioned local roofers, who are up there hammering away as I write... I will post an update on my website next month. If you haven't had a newsletter from me before, click the image, get another free book, and check out the storyboard tab on my website for some previous images of our life here in Ireland.
Authorly News
The Silence of Children was taken free from Amazon by some 3,000 readers last week. I am hoping that some will take the time to read and post a review. Many thanks to those of you who have already done so, but here's a reminder of the links for everyone else: Goodreads Amazon Bookbub
.
As it seems wrong to make money out of the very real subject of child abuse I have decided to donate a substantial proportion of profit from this series to the Child Rescue Coalition, which uses internet tracking to trace people who download images of child abuse. If anyone who has received the book free and approves of this premise, perhaps you would consider making a donation. Even a small amount will make a difference in the real world.
*** BOOKS FREE OR ON OFFER (mostly) ***
I don't have time to check every book that comes via a book funnel, or a 'swap' promotion with another author, so, if you get a short story or a sample, a badly written book, or anything else that you find irritating, let the author know; don't shoot the messenger! Oh, and even if you choose not to take any of the books from the offers below, do click on some links... It helps my share statistics!
The link below is for the 'Great Books' Campaign...
(I don't know why they didn't write this on the image!)
If you're new to my list, and are willing to post an online review of one of my books, email me and I will send you a link to the book of your choice.
I welcome feedback on my writing.
Happy Reading
You have probably received this newsletter because you have accepted one of my books from a promotion. I do hope you wish to continue to follow both my publishing journey, and my storyboards of life here in Ireland, but if not, there is an unsubscribe button below.
