The outpouring of support I have seen across our community as we weather the COVID-19 storm has been stunning to witness. The warmth, encouragement and unique ways I have seen people reach out to each other portrays a strength of unity in this time of crisis. I sometimes have the feeling I'm living out the pages of an epic story, the plot unfolding around me in real time. This is certainly outside the experience of any person alive today, and the way the situation has been dealt with is no doubt a lesson learned for the future. Yes, these last months have been grim, frightening, and uncertain, and I think this time is something we will never forget.

I've seen several authors using Covid-19 as an excuse to write novels with a present day impact, and personally, I'm not impressed by those keen to make immediate profit out of the pandemic. I think the bigger impact is going to be long term, and there are many more lessons yet to be learned. It might have long-term affects on the way we interact socially, it will certainly have a financial implication, but more than anything, it has awakened us all to our vulnerability as human beings. Things that historically belonged to others throughout history - the Black Death, Spanish Flu - are now with us, and we are dealing with them each in our own unique way.

In the months to come, our world will be vastly different to the one we knew at the beginning of the year and the seeds of new stories are being sown in each and every one of us. Many of us are stuck at home, unable to do things we took for granted so recently. If you are an author, or if you have ever thought about writing your experiences, now is the time to gather your words and make use of the time that might be hanging all too heavily.
