🎧 Even Stephen Bartlett Gets Hiring Jitters! (And What We Can Learn From It) 😬

Hi there ,
Reading time: less than 2 mins
You know that feeling of dread that creeps in when you're about to make a crucial hiring decision? The 'what ifs' and 'maybes' that swirl around your head, keeping you up at night?
Well, guess what? You're not alone!
I was listening to the Diary of a CEO podcast over the weekend. It's the recent one with MrBeast, and even Stephen (the business whiz himself!) admitted to feeling apprehensive about hiring.
He talked about the pressure of finding the right people to join his team, the fear of making the wrong decision, and the impact it can have on his company's success.
It was a refreshing reminder that even the most successful entrepreneurs and business leaders experience those same hiring jitters.
Bartlett said he gets worried about being perceived as a bad employer. Perhaps he has more pressure due to being in the public eye?
And it got me thinking:
Why is hiring so darn scary?
Here are a few reasons why hiring can be a nerve-wracking experience:
- The high stakes: Hiring the wrong person can be costly, both financially and in terms of team morale and productivity (and your sanity!)
- The fear of the unknown: It's impossible to know for sure how someone will perform once they join your team.
- The pressure to get it right: With so much riding on your hiring decisions, it's easy to feel overwhelmed and anxious.
But here's the good news...
There are ways to mitigate those fears and make the hiring process less daunting.
- Define your needs clearly: Know exactly what you're looking for in a candidate, both in terms of skills and cultural fit or add.
- Develop a robust hiring process: Create a structured process that includes multiple data gathering and touchpoints, such as interviews, assessments, and reference checks.
- Trust your gut: Don't ignore your intuition. If something feels off, it probably is.
- Don't be afraid to ask for help: A seasoned recruitment expert (hello!) can provide valuable guidance and support throughout the process.
Remember, hiring is a journey, not a destination.
There will be bumps along the way, but by embracing the challenge and learning from your experiences, you can build a team that's truly exceptional.
Happy Hiring!
Helen
