Rugby, Netball, and the Bold Pursuit of Better Hiring

Hey ,

Ever seen a rugby player gracefully navigating a netball court?

It might sound odd, but when rugby first went pro in the mid-90s, top teams ditched the 'pint before the match' tradition and embraced yoga, netball, and personalised nutrition plans.

They realised that to be the best, you can't just keep doing what you've always done.

You have to be bold, brave, and willing to try new things.

You may know that I transitioned from BBC sports broadcaster to business owner, helping founder-led businesses to hire well and keep their brilliant staff.

That lesson stuck with me.

In my world of recruiting for growing companies and SMEs, I see the same thing.

We can't just copy the corporate hiring playbook and expect amazing results.

To build a truly aligned team, one that's passionate about your vision and ready to make it happen, we need to be open to new approaches.

Maybe that means ditching the CV-obsessed mindset and focusing on a candidate's potential and cultural fit.

Or perhaps it's about embracing unconventional interview techniques to uncover hidden talents.

The point is, we can't be afraid to challenge the status quo.

Sometimes, to reach new heights, we need to learn a new game, just like those rugby players did.

Let's ditch the old playbook and build a team that's truly aligned with your vision.

Happy Hiring,

Helen
