Maye Musk is the mum of 50-year-old South African born American Elon Musk.
Elon is an industrial engineer, entrepreneur, who co-founded Paypal and founded aerospace transportation services company SpaceX. He is also one of the early investors in Tesla, an electric car company, and now the Chief Executive Officer of the firm as well. He is also one of the richest people in the world.
Maye raised her 3 children on her own after her divorce from an abusive marriage. She raised Elon and his siblings as a single mum while obtaining her degree as a medical dietician and running a career as a model.
When asked how she raised her children, she said a lot of the foundational lesson that children learn are learnt from the dinner table. And went on to say that just like her parents, she taught her children to be independent.
She started working for her parents at age 8 and had the kids doing stuff for themselves from an early age while she worked from home.
By age 12 all of her kids already knew what they wanted to do Elon made a computer program in South Africa which she shared with the Engineer Students at the university and they applauded. She helped him send it to a magazine and he got paid for it.
His brother Kimbal was cooking for the family at age 12 and now owns a chain of restaurants and vegetable gardens for schools.
And their sister Tosca knew every movie and wanted to do films and now owns her own platform known as passion flicks.
When asked what the greatest gift she gave her children is, she responded, “ Being polite and doing things for other people. They saw me doing this with my clients and everyone.
