The Life Lesson I Taught the Kids Today

,
I got a message from our son's school while he was in school and this conversation ensued later in the day ;
Me: I got an incidence report from school that you didn't turn in an assignment.
Son: Oh, I thought that got settled when I explained to my teacher that I didn't get the worksheet?But how's it my fault that I didn't know about an assignment?
Me: Hows is it that everyone else got these sheets except you?
I guess your teacher expects you would keep abreast with what's going on in your class. It is your responsibility to know what happened in class if for any reason you stepped out or were absent .
Remember the story I told you about missing a letter from an email address and so missed a deadline to turn in an assignment? What happened?
Son: You tried to explain and show proof that you did it , but it was a valid excuse, but it wasn't tenable in a no excuse system. So you had to go through the consequence like others.
Me: Now do you get it?
Son: Yes mum, so I'll go back , apologise , do the assignment and create a system where I double check at the end of the each day to be sure I'm not missing anything.
Me: Now you get it! Excuses my be valid , but we don't get results by making excuses.
Every action has got a consequence and the excuse of ignorance or discomfort doesn't spare you from these consequences.
The most successful people thrive on a zero excuse formular. You show up , or go home!
What lesson did you teach your child today?
