Children Don't Need Perfect Parents, They Need Parents Who Can Connect with Them.

As we begin the week , lets zoom in on one effect that our parenting may have on our children when we become overly critical and judgemental.

Children who are judged and overly criticized turn out to be difficult and judgemental people in most cases .

When parents or caregivers place too much expectations on children, they are bound to fail sometimes because, like everyone else, they aren't perfect , they make mistakes, yes many times. But this is why we are the adults , to be the models and to offer guidance.

When we project " perfection" and act like parents who never make/made mistakes , nitpick everything, and never extend grace to children, we force them to turn to lies to avoid getting into trouble. They soon become deceitful and smart in their own eyes or even worse.

Give them a few years, and they may grow into teenagers and eventually adults who are always upset and triggered by others because they are highly judgemental and never satisfied by other people's effort .

The worst part is that they make life hard for others and even harder for themselves because they are always upset and angry at those around them.

The good news is that we can spare our children this trauma by becoming intentional today.

💫 Let's teach them to take responsibility for their mistakes by letting them know we all make mistakes, but whats important is learning from them .

💫 Model the right way to do things and guide them to practice consistently.

💫 Allow them to go through natural consequences and talk about the lessons afterward.

💫 Catch your child doing right as much as you catch them doing wrong, and remember to parise their efforts.

💫 Calmly go through their mistakes as much as you can and stay focused on how they can bounce back from them.

Remember, children do not need perfect parents. They need parents who they can connect with.

Selah.
