THE MENTOR PARENT EXTRAORDINAIRE
Feb 04, 2022 6:11 am
My daughter asks me 'why' for almost every instruction I give her. She would look at me after I have let out the instruction and then ask the question, " why mummy?"
I have learnt to come down to her eye level and explain the 'why' no matter how silly it may sound to her. And almost every time she would simply smile and say, "okay mummy."
Do you want to know why I always answer her questions?
1. I want her to know it is okay to ask 'why?'
2. I want her to know she is so important that I will leave everything to attend to her, so she knows she deserves to receive positive attention from people.
3. I want to establish the standard that will be applied in our relationship today and in the future when she becomes a busy executive/ mogul and while saving the world, there'll always be time for the ones that matter.
4. I want to reinforce our family value that states family over everything a.k.a commitment to family. I hope your children know your family values too?
Dear parent, how often do you answer the WHYs?
More importantly, how glad are you to do this? ( Yop I know they are annoying, but think of the lessons )
