HOW I GOT MY KIDS TO GLADLY REPLACE SCREEN TIME WITH EXPLORATION

Dear

I know how tempting it can be to hand the kids the remote control, game pads and some snacks and run off to have some peace😂

So,the kids and I agreed on a set of rules when it comes to screen time; viewing days, duration, resolving conflicts around preferred programs etc.

This was fine, however,I noticed how desperately they waited for the agreed time ,it almost seemed like they spent all day thinking about it🤨. This wasn't the goal for me,as I'm always about what is effective.

So I got thinking and it wasn't too hard to figure out what the problem was, you can't get them off an interest without actively engaging them in another! I also had to look for how to program them to understand why screen time isn't that cool! So I cleared up a space, made a list of resources (crayons, paints, cardboard, loose parts etc) and...

Story time! So I got my store of inspiring stories and quotes and told them about little miss Makosinski who had no toys because her parents thought she could create some for herself! And, how she didn't miss not watching so much t.v because she was busy creating the coolest toy inventions!

Then I'll say to them, wait for it...

" Do you know she went on to win a cool prize and LOTS of money at a Google Science competition at 16!

Do you know she is creating cool inventions for kids all over the world...

Programming is in the choice of words and how kids connect with the stories you tell.

I know this! and that is why I have put some of the inspiring stories we share together in my book,"Bedtime Stories for Champions."

Trust me,I got you!

Say cheese.. 🤳
