Silence , Stillness and Reflection for Children
Jan 23, 2023 9:32 am
The ability to stay silent, still and reflective is a gift that many people, even adults lack today.
The tendency is that we want to turn on the television and play some music even when no one is interested in them, or we look for someone to call up just to gist and make some noise, we are afraid to be silent, so, anything to have noise surround us.
And so we project this same life on our children by promoting a noisy lifestyle. We have every subscription possible in our home, just name them - DSTV, Netflix, ShowMax, YouTube, plus every video game you know of and your child has ever heard of or wanted.
Oh and their almighty tablet, Ipad, and/or
phone to power all the above.
Then we begin the rat race ;
👉🏿 Quarrel and yelling about how much time they spend on screen and how distracted they are by it.
👉🏿 Endless threats of seizing their gadgets.
👉🏿 Back and forth confiscation and return of this gadget.
👉🏿 Unconsciously making this subject become the basis for most of your parent-child conversation ( banter).
The point is, can the children be introduced to and taught reflection and effective silence as a skill, while they have these distractions without structure?
( mind you, this is different from your child withdrawing and locking themselves up in their room with their phone and other situations)
Most creatives, innovators, leaders, and world changers attest to getting their inspiration during reflection or while being quiet to the noise of these distractions.
There is a huge need to introduce our children to habits that give them the space, silence, and stillness to build self-awareness.
If we don't start today we are very likely to deal with big issues like distraction management, addiction, solitary living, lack of commitments poor social intelligence, poor choices of friends, and broken relationships (friendship, marriage, etc)
I will be discussing some tools that you can use to achieve this in our "Skill Up" Show at 1 pm today Monday 23rd .
Set your alarm and show up let's Skill you Up for the week.
