Getting on the first page of Google ✨

Hey, ,

I started writing this newsletter to 0 people in September 2021, just over two years ago.

It has now grown to over 5,000 lovely people (including you), all without the use of social media.

How did that happen?

This week, I'm happy to share with you one method that I explored to help grow this newsletter organically:

Designing a very simple, yet effective landing page for my newsletter.

My goal with this newsletter was to provide actionable training resources for people who use Wix and want to learn how to build a business with intention — one that works for them.

To do so though, I needed to make it optimized for people that were searching for help with their Wix websites.

Here's how it all began:

I spent a couple hours researching what people typically search for when they want to find help for their Wix websites.

You can also do this too for your own website, products, or services.

Start by visiting Google, and begin to type… and then wait. Google will then autofill with the most commonly searched for phrases or words (keywords). Pay attention to these keywords. They're incredibly valuable, because that's what people are actually searching for.

What I noticed was that "Wix Training" or "Wix Tips" tended to show up the most. Also, I noticed that the word "Free" was paired a lot with what people were searching for.

Then came the results…

When I started visiting pages that showed up in the search results, most were from the official Wix Blog. The rest were mostly outdated articles about Wix. And most of those focused on choosing the right Wix Premium Plan.

This confused me.

When people are searching for Wix Training or Wix Tips, they want to know more than which plan to choose. They have a lot more questions. Often times, they also want an unbiased source, so they may look beyond the official Wix Blog.

I knew then that what I was offering was something people were looking for and still needed help with.

So, I gave my new website page for my newsletter a straightforward title:

Free Wix Tips & Strategies

along with a simple and truthful description:

Join my free weekly newsletter and get my favorite Wix website strategies, exclusive Wix training and examples, and tips to grow your business.

I added one section with a form to sign up:

and another section that described in more detail what someone would find inside the newsletter each week:

There's another story for a future edition here on how it can actually be more effective to create a simple landing page vs. a complex and long one.

Finally, I clicked Publish.

A few hours later… I typed those same keywords on Google and saw something I wasn't expecting…

My new newsletter website page was showing up in the top 10 results on the first day for the same keywords I researched.

I feel like I need to set the right expectations for you though. This is incredibly rare and not to be expected. Even Google states that you won't see a return on your investment into SEO for 6-12 months.

That's true even for me. While my page was showing up in the top 10 and even #1, I didn't suddenly get hundreds of signups.

Instead, one person would join me every few days. I would begin by saying hello and thank you.

I view each person who signs up as a relationship I want to develop. You believe in me and I believe in you.

Over time, people like you joined me along the journey. Thank you!

The Wix Weekly website still ranks on the first page of Google to this day. And, it's actually started to appear on the second page of Google for even more popular keywords that people are searching for. Go check it out >

This plan has allowed me to stress less and didn't require me to post daily on social media platforms. I made a choice to leave social media over 5 years ago and I don't plan on returning.

This choice also means that I have to be patient about my business growing. SEO is a slow-growth method. However, it's also an evergreen method, meaning that it feels new to people who find it.

I would typically recommend making changes and posting new content every so often on your website. So far though, I have chosen to not make any changes, because it's been performing so well since Day 1.
