AMONGST THE CPD COURSES COMING UP IN FEBRUARY
I was looking at the courses we have planned for February, and immediately saw a link. The risk of suicide.
Male suicide is the leading cause of death for men under 50 in the UK, yet the forces behind it—shame, trauma, and quiet desperation—often go unspoken.
Shame is strongly linked to suicide because it creates intense feelings of worthlessness, unlovability, and being a burden, leading to unbearable psychic pain, hopelessness, and self-loathing, which can drive individuals to self-punishment or escape through suicide.
And autistic adults are estimated to be at least seven to nine times more likely to die by suicide than non-autistic adults.
Attending any of these courses below, will offer deeply human, practical, and transformative learning experiences to enhance your therapeutic practice.

AND BOOK YOUR PLACE!
Suicide and Trauma explores how trauma shapes suicidal thinking and equips therapists to assess risk and intervene safely.
Lives of Quiet Desperation: Therapy with Men uncovers the pressures and vulnerabilities behind male stoicism, using experiential learning to challenge our attitude
Working with Shame addresses a key driver of distress across genders, guiding therapists to help clients recognise, process, and transform shame into healing and connection.
Neurodivergence, Sex and Relationships focuses on the unique challenges faced by neurodivergent clients in sexual and relational contexts, highlighting how experiences of social difference, exclusion, and internalised shame can impact wellbeing.
JULIET'S MUSINGS
28 - Speaking Up with Care: Calling Out Behaviour that Hurts Without Hurting Back
How to name and address challenging behaviour with clarity and calm, holding boundaries without shaming or escalating.
There is a quiet art to calling out a behaviour without tipping into heat or shame. It begins with remembering that the moment you feel fiery, something in the present has touched something from your past. Your reaction has been shaped by old history. When we speak from that place, we often escalate rather than illuminate. The real skill lies in pausing, settling your own body, and addressing what happened with steadiness and clarity.
