This 1-day experiential training offers you the opportunity to further develop your competence and confidence when working with neurodivergent adults.

By moving away from pathologising psychiatric terms such as “disorder” and taking a more developmental approach, we can explore and discuss some of the experiences of neurodivergent clients and their common presenting issues concerning sex and relationships. These include sensory processing issues in relation to sex, rejection sensitivity in dating, and alexithymia and OCD in relationships. We also investigate the intersectionality between neurodivergence and gender, asexuality, non-monogamy, and kink. Woven into the day are eight fun and reflective activities for you to try and potentially to use with neurodivergent clients. Lastly, there will be time to reflect on the appropriate adjustments you’re willing and able to make in your practice.

JULIET'S MUSINGS

53. The Quiet Power of Reliability: Why Trust Is Built Through Small Truths

This is People Pleasing Talk 8

I realise there has been an ongoing theme in several of these talks around people pleasing. If this interests you, you may also want to revisit talks 6, 9, 11, 16, 32, 37, and now this one, talk 53.

There is something deeply reassuring about people who under promise and over deliver.

The person who says, “I’ll try my best to get there by 2pm, but traffic may slow me down,” and then arrives at 1.50.

The therapist who says, “This work may take time,” rather than promising transformation in six sessions.

The friend who quietly does what they said they would do.

Reliability is profoundly regulating to the nervous system. It creates safety. We relax around people whose words and actions match.
