We never know who will walk through the door, and what their lifestyle will be.

Therapists today are increasingly working with clients whose relationships sit outside traditional norms. A therapist who understands polyamory, and the wider cultural diversity of relationships, is better equipped to meet clients without judgement or assumption. Not all relationships follow a monogamous script, and when that norm is unconsciously imposed, clients can feel misunderstood or even pathologised. This training invites a broader curiosity about how people negotiate intimacy, boundaries, attachment, and consent, while helping you distinguish between what is truly problematic and what simply sits outside mainstream expectations.

Other Loves 1 – Consensual Non-monogamy and Polyamory offers a grounded, clinically relevant exploration of multi-partner relationships.

Other Loves 2 – Exploring Relationship Styles across Cultures and Religions expands your understanding of arranged marriages, polygamy, and culturally shaped relational norms.

Each course can be taken as a standalone module, or as part of our Certificate in Working with Diversity in Contemporary Relationships.

Thoughtful, practical, and rooted in real clinical experience, these trainings support not just knowledge, but stance: a willingness to listen deeply, question one’s own biases, and honour the relational worlds clients are actually living in.

44. THE BOUNDARIES SERIES: TALK SIX

Invitation, Request, Demand

When Desire Becomes Safe – and When It Doesn’t

Desire is not the problem in relationships. What destabilises couples is how desire is expressed, and what happens when it is not met.

From a boundary perspective, there are three ways our orange can reach towards another person: invitation, request, and demand.
