Good afternoon ,

Have you ever had been sad when you finished a book? Regretted reading it so quickly? Gone immediately to find out if there's a sequel?

It's called a book hangover, though I'm not sure if that isn't a misnomer. Another place called it the "post-book blues", which might be a more apt name. But whatever we call it, it's the sensation of sadness, of regret, of depression at saying goodbye to the friends we just made.

It's so interesting to me how invested we can become in the lives of fictional people. It's one of the most amazing things about stories, that our brains can place us into the story as though we are in that world, experiencing it right alongside the main characters. Our brains get so involved that when a story is written well, it's like we're moving away or worse, as though they've died.

Has this ever happened to you? Were you ever sad when you closed a book? Which books were they?

For me it's been a few.

Trinity: a novel of Ireland by Leon Uris

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger

The Accidental Princess by Allison Pataki

Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay

The Paris Architect by Charles Belfoure

Okay, I'm going to force myself to stop now. The more I look through my book shelve, the more books I find to put on the list!

What about you? What are some books that gave you a book hangover?

There's a sales promotion this week that I'm part of. A sales promotion doesn't have free books, although many are on sale, but the readers also aren't obligated to join any new newsletters to get the book.

The selection is a bit less than the promotion last week, but many of the books look very intriguing. Find them here or take a look at the covers below.
