Hello ,
I know this isn't a week I typically write to you but I'm too excited to wait until next week! Why?
Because Grande Dame Literary Journal published one of my short stories!
I've been wanting to share more of my short stories with you all, but the minute they hit the internet they are considered 'published' and therefor have less of a chance of ending up in a journal. That's why I've been keeping them to myself in the hopes of getting a few published.
Jst last week I was notified that Grande Dame wanted to published my short story, 'Whistling Motherhood'. I was over the moon!
You can read the story here.
(Even after having an editor go through it and having their editor work with me on it, I found a typo. ERG! Goes to show how difficult it is to make things perfect. But, I'm still extremely proud of this story and am very excited I get to share it with you. Please excuse the typo and enjoy reading!)
An excerpt:
Before the morning sun light can infiltrate the small hospital room, a medical resident barely out of school is grilling me about my baby boy’s bodily functions. It’s five to six in the morning and I can smell my own bad breath as I speak. I smooth out my wrinkled shirt and tell myself not to be embarrassed. The doctor isn’t embarrassed.
I eye him. He’s from the generation that isn’t even a little uncomfortable with the consonants and vowels he strung together. He doesn’t blush or stutter.
“Did he seem to be constipated last night?”
“No,” I say.
“Are his bowel movements normally—”
I close my ears to the descriptive words he uses, which evoke flashcards of images I’d rather not see in my head. -----Read the rest here.
Please share the story with other readers and happy reading, y'all!
