Your favorite book as a kid?

Hello
What was your favorite book as a kid? If you're my age or older, you didn't have stories and movies on demand AND you didn't have access to as many books because they were expensive.
Unless your mom took you to the library, which mine did not.
But my grandpa did.
At the library in Kansas City I devoured The Baby-Sitter's Club and Sweet Valley High. When I read all the copies they had in the library my grandmother suggested the Anne of Green Gables series. I devoured the first book but couldn't finish all eight before I had to go back home.
Much to my delight, the entire boxset made it to me under the tree that Christmas. My favorites of the series are the first two books and then last one, which is written from the point of view of Anne's youngest daughter who comes of age during WWI. I'm almost certain it was the first book I ever read set in World War I. That time frame just doesn't seem to get as much play, does it?
Anne of Green Gables was my absolute favorite movie for at least two years. I rented it every time it was my turn to choose until my mom said I had to choose something else for my brother's sanity. Luckily for me, PBS showed the movie annually. Imagine! I dealt with those terrible thirty minutes of upselling from PBS just to watch the movie!
What books did you love as a kid? Did they make movies out of them? Were the movies any good?
I have to say, the movies for Anne of Green Gables were pretty spot on with the book. I don't remember having any complaints.

Writing News
I'm hosting a Story Clarity workshop on April 30 at 1pm Eastern. If you are looking to learn how to get clearer with your novel idea, character and the story arch in order to sit down and write with excitement and clarity, this workshop is for you! I'm going to use the sam techniques I put to the test with my recent novel, which allowed me to get so much deeper into the psyche of my ,Iain character that now when I sit down to write I have no problem knowing exactly where I want the story to go next!
To find out more about the workshop and to sign up, click here.
Otherwise, I'm continuing along my course of writing and getting quite a bit done. I'm pleased with my progress so far. At this point I'm absolutely certain I'll have another book out this year, if not two. Fingers crossed!
