I'll begin with a rough outline on what dopamine is, the molecule of pursuit.
You don't have infinite dopamine.
But, it can be used in a way where it feels infinite.
Or you can waste it and therefore will not have any fuel to pursue anything.
You use dopamine through what you do, when you eat, when you converse, when you consume just about anything.
The thing that I have to emphasize is there are high quality acts which don't give you instant dopamine, but you have to earn it.
Then there are low quality acts which you can generate dopamine instantly, but with that instant generation there's a cost.
The secret is not to stack sources of instant gratification.
Meaning, you can do certain acts which are instantly gratifying, but if you don't over do it you will be okay.
The trouble is when people stack these instantly gratifying acts, what goes up must come down.
When you come down in this situation you fall way below your baseline or average levels.

To do all that I said your future must be more important than pleasure in this moment.

Educate And Execute
I'm going to go more practical in how you can get your dopamine system right.
You eat natural, ethically raised food.
You practice habits like, exercising, researching via podcast / youtube / self-educational formats, reading and taking notes depending on the topic, cleaning and organizing what you own, walking often, breath work, stretching.
For every bullshit habit you remove you usually can add a healthy one to replace it.
The bullshit habits are the ones which require 0 effort but still give you stimulus.
Follow the 90-10 rule, you don't have to be perfect.
You want to have a weekly planner, a rough outline of the task you'll do at a certain time of day.
Once a task becomes automatic you don't have to put it on your planner.
The planner will keep you executing on your healthy habits, rather than feeling bored and doing an un-healthy act.
Your mind will wonder, notice the thoughts related to temptation and choose to do a healthy act that instant.
None of this is possible without clarity and if you need to start somewhere.
Begin with not buying bullshit food.
Start buying healthy food.
Start exercising consistently.
If you already do that, never quit.
That's your foundation.
You need a strong foundation.

100 Micro Shifts
Now let's dive into some psychological cheat codes to being healthy and delaying gratification.
You must know there is no overnight success, all the real people thriving right now will explain it's 100 small shifts overtime that built them.
Not 1 magic pill.
Therefore, you need to be focused on improving with consistency and sustainability, while working hard.
You want to test yourself, without burning out.
You do this through knowing your mission, your why and your top priorities.
Stop comparing yourself to others, stop trying to reinvent the wheel.
Notice who's doing well and learn from them.
Then add your unique spin, gently.
With this vision crafted, you need to clarity your ANTI ROLE MODEL, what you don't want to become.
Notice, the habits of your anti role model.
They don't delay gratification.
Personally mine is a man who is fragile physically and mentally, one who blames others and acts as a victim.
Identify everything that leads down the path of your anti role model.
Use that insight as fuel not to indulge in your old habits.
If you slip up, do not loose your cool.
Admit you did and re route immediately.
Don't sulk, use your slip up as fuel to get better, sometimes you need reminders of what your ant role model feels like.

Connect Dots And Zoom In / Out
Out of sight out of mind. One of the best tricks for preventing temptation.
Truly, you need to fully understand how one thing links to another.
For example, a form of instant gratification that I personally don't view as healthy if over used...
Smoking weed leads me to sleep poorly as it doesn't allow for REM sleep and that's why you wakeup extra tired after smoking.
Then Poor sleep leads me to be lazy, or not operate as efficiently as otherwise.
Now I don't get as much done as I know I could have and that annoys me.
See how one action leads to a loop of bullshit?
That's just a single example.
Same structure can be applied to so many different acts of instant gratification, you can never lie to yourself BUT you sure can bullshit yourself.
Be honest.
Look in your mirror, are you who you want to be?
If not, you need to prioritize delaying gratification.
If you need print this document out and read it often.
Do whatever you need to do to prioritize your health.
Listen, you can't share what you don't have.
You need to become that which you admire if you want your family, girl and friends to grow as well.
Your every decision matters.
