Who wrote the rules you're following?

Good morning, ,
I was DMing someone on Instagram the other day, and they told me that they couldn't quit the job they hated.
I'm always interested in learning about what holds people back so I asked why. "Why can't you quit?"
They told me that "It will make me look like a job hopper."
OK. So...what's the problem with job hopping?
"Well, it will ruin my reputation."
For who? Who is going to care that you've changed jobs?
My son called me after an interview, where the interviewer wasn't impressed with his resume. Because it didn't have exactly the experience that the interviewer wanted to see.
Someone asked me once how she could hide her wrinkles, because she assumed that the interviewer would think less of her because of her age.
Here's the bad news: We can't control what other people think.
And the best news: None of that is any of our business, anyway! Some recruiters value experience over youth. Others want the opposite.
Some will want someone who is decisive and will move towards what they want regardless of the perceived consequences. Others want stability.
You can't appeal to everyone. And you can't guess what everyone else is thinking.
Besides, all those "rules' are just made up. They don't exist, unless you decide to follow them.
You don't have to. Break the rules!
You've got this!
