How to Network when you Hate Networking

Hey, ,

When I was in the job search, my stomach sank every time I thought about networking. I put it off. Procrastinated. Overslept so that I missed attending networking events.

It's pretty fair to say that I hated meeting people.

That makes it hard to network. To find a job.

Then I wrote a book about networking. (I had some help, but it acually had some good tips) And I finally understood how to network without the cringe factor.

Make it about them.

Most people network to get. Get contacts. Get connections. Get clients.

Not you. You'll network the right way.

Networking isn't about getting...it's about giving.

You're there to make connections. Not between you and someone, but betweeen someone and someone else.

Meet people and think of who you can introduce them to. Who will meet their needs.

That changes the game. First, it's less awkward. Second, it's more fun. Third, you become more valuable.

Win / win / win.

Try it out.

Ken
