Lessons I learned from a bucket of ice

Good morning, ,
A mentor told me to try an "Ice Challenge."
"Put your hand into a bowl of ice water. Minimum of three minutes. Up to 8 minutes."
Easy. Right?
He went on to explain that "after 12 seconds you'll want to quit."
Not me. I can do this. It's a cold water. No big deal.
It's really easy to imagine that we're willing to do things, so we assume it's not necessary for us to actually take action.
And then I did it. Just my left hand. Completely submerged in ice water.
Three minutes minimum. (I did five)
And two things I learned:
- When my hand got cold (about 12 seconds in) all I could think about was how cold my hand was.
- Keeping my hand in the ice water when it was uncomfortable, but I was able to do it.
Try it out. See if you learn something different. Let me know what you learn.
You got this!
