TEDx Lessons Part 2
Oct 09, 2025 1:36 pm
Good morning, ,
I was sitting in a room adjacent to the conference room where, 24 hours later, I would be sitting, surrounded by people I didn't know, for a TEDx event.
The view was gorgeous. I looked across the Hudson river into Manhattan. The setup team was assembling the iconic "TEDxJerseyCity" sign that would be part of the backdrop.
Then Damon walked in.
No one can miss Damon. He's loud. He's larger than life. He's amazing. Convicted felon-turned-advocate.
I instantly liked him.
Over the next 36 hours, we spent a lot of time together. We talked a lot. And I learned that Damon is an incredible cheerleader.
Not just for the felons that he helps during his day job. But everyone.
I watched him encourage everyone who happened to be close to him. Including me. Nothing mattered. Not skin color, gender, income, family status. Nothing.
Damon didn't need to hear my talk. He was already live it. The way I wanted to say my line (which I changed to not push against the TEDx guidelines) was, "Walk into EVERY room like God sent you."
Damon does. I sometimes get it right. And I encourage you to make it a practice. Everything you do can be done like you're on a mission.
You are more powerful than you know!
You've got this!
Ken
