The Problem with Certainty
Nov 05, 2025 2:24 pm
Good morning, ,
My wife's work is moving the office she works out of.
But they don't know when. They weren't told where. Just that "sometime maybe in the next two years, we'll be shutting down this location and moving the operations to another office."
And when she asked questions about when, where, or some of the logistics around the move, she was criticized: "Why are you so worried about this?"
Because we crave certainty. We want to know what's coming next. And when there are unknowns, we get very uncomfortable.
And if we can't get answers, we start doing things to create our own certanity--like quitting.
The problem? A lot of times we let the lack of certainty keep us from moving towards what we want.
We wonder, "What if it's worse there than it is here?"
We know how much the current job sucks, and even though it's awful, it's toxic, and the boss is an idiot, we know how to deal with all that.
Take action towards what you want. Even when you don't know what that will look like. Trust yourself enough to be able to figure it out.
You got this!
Ken
