Let's Build A World Together!

Hey Dragons!

So I started reading a craft book called Save The Cat Writes a Novel and oh my gosh did the structure make so much sense to me. For my MFA this term I have to read some monster/horror books and the first one is I Am Legend. So of course I took it upon myself to mark exactly where each section of Save The Cat says there should be a certain beat and almost page for page it has been accurate. In a way, it is unnerving to realize this.

Apothecary’s Price is also almost completed. I have written about 14,600 words out of my goal of 25,000 words. I’m thinking I may go back through and use the save the cat method to see how the pacing is for it and adjust from there on some revisions as well. So I am pretty pumped up for that.

In terms of writing other books, it has been a bit more of a butterfly chasing effect for me. I did want to write Death Deserved, and still want to. However, I am going to save that one for a later date as a potential. What I really want to do at this point is world build and create a vast universe to write stories in where you could jump in at any point and enjoy it without having to read the other books. Obviously, each story will be a multi-book series too.

Not sure what this entails? Think of books like the Shannara Chronicles, Forgotten Realms, and Malazan. There are obviously connections, but each series/book is a separate entity in the world. Once Apothecary’s Price is complete, I will most likely start world-building in that and stream my world-building as well as developing short stories set in the world I am building for Patreon and later placed as free books on Royal Road.

As I world build, I may incorporate you all as readers to help me design how the history forms and everything.

What books have you read that are like that where it’s set in the same world but a different cast of characters and different storylines not connected to one another?
