Something interesting happened and I want to share it with you.

Yesterday, I received a video message from a baker. At first, I thought it was a project or assignment from one of my students. But when I read the text beneath the video, I realized it was something else entirely.

I hit play, and boom! it was a Valentine’s Day offer! I smiled and replied, “Beautiful. Wishing you more sales!”

But then I paused. Why am I even getting this message? Could it be from one of my CAKE BUSINESS ACCELERATOR (Lite) members working on our Valentine’s Day assignment?

While I was still wondering, ding! another video dropped with an even bigger offer. Before I could process that, bam! a third video, with an offer even higher than the last!

At that point, I knew exactly what was happening. This baker was sending her offers everywhere, hoping someone, anyone, would bite.

Cue the teacher in me, I switched straight into coaching mode (I don’t even know how this happens instead of me getting annoyed… but hey, that’s the job! 🤣).

So, I asked:

“Do you have a customer list?”

And that’s how we dove into a quick lesson on customer segmentation and targeted marketing; because sending offers to random people is like baking a cake without a recipe. A lot of effort, but the results? Meh.

She was super grateful, and I was glad I could help.

Now, with just 13 days to Valentine’s Day, many bakers are still making this same mistake of sending offers to people who will never buy from you. That’s a recipe for frustration.

So, here’s my advice:

Take 30 minutes today to reshuffle your list, refocus your targeting, and send your offers to the right people. There’s still time to secure those last-minute orders!
