The Client Quest: Unlock the Power of Social Media to Attract New Clients

THE CLIENT QUEST

imageHey there! Welcome back to The Client Quest, newsletter series. I'm hoping this series will provide you with two things. First and foremost, it will help answer the most popular question I get from students of my Work From Home as a Virtual Assistant Udemy course; “How do I get clients?” And second I hope it will make you feel less alone in your journey to find more clients. As I said last week, there's no magical secret that will suddenly have the clients beating a path to your door. That doesn't mean there aren't tried and true ways to make connections that may end up leading to clients. Last week we talked about Networking Events, this week we are going to talk about Social Media. Love it or hate it, social media has proven itself to be a good way to find clients. Is it a fit for you and your home business? Only you can decide that, but to help you figure that out keep on reading.

Unlock the Power of Social Media to Attract New Clients

If you’re looking to expand your reach and get new clients, social media is a great way to do just that!

In fact, 71% of small-to-mid-sized businesses use social media to market themselves, and 52% post once a day. But where do you start?

First, identify your target audience and search for relevant hashtags and groups on each platform. For example, if you are a graphic designer, you can search for hashtags like #graphicdesigner or #designthinking to find potential clients.

Next, decide which social media platform(s) are the best fit for you and your home business. Below is a quick overview of a few. You’ll notice that I haven’t included TikTok or YouTube in the list. Both are video-centric platforms, and we’ll talk about that in another issue.

LinkedIn is a great platform for finding clients in the B2B space. You can use LinkedIn to connect with potential clients, join relevant groups, and share your expertise through articles and posts. For example, a freelance writer used LinkedIn to find clients by sharing articles on writing tips and techniques.

Twitter is another platform that can be used to find clients. You can use Twitter to search for relevant hashtags and engage with potential clients by commenting on their posts and sharing your expertise. For example, a social media agency used Twitter to find clients by engaging with potential clients who were looking for social media services.

Please note that in recent months Twitter has run across some serious problems and experts aren’t sure it will survive or remain a safe, secure platform. There is a new, upcoming platform called Spoutible, which has been created to be like Twitter without the bullying and bots that Twitter has long had problems with.

Instagram is a visual platform that can be used to showcase your work and attract new clients. You can use Instagram to share photos and videos of your work, as well as engage with potential clients through comments and direct messages. For example, a photographer used Instagram to find clients by sharing photos of her work and engaging with potential clients who were looking for a photographer.

Facebook is a platform that can be used to find clients through groups and pages. You can join relevant groups and pages in your industry and engage with potential clients by commenting on their posts and sharing your expertise. For example, a web developer used Facebook to find clients by joining groups related to web development and sharing his expertise through posts and comments.

Once you’ve decided on a platform or platforms you feel fit, it’s time to create a social media strategy for finding clients. How do you do that? Follow the steps below:

  1. Define your goals and objectives. What do you want to achieve with your social media strategy? Do you want to increase brand awareness, generate leads, or drive sales?
  2. Identify your target audience. Who are your ideal clients, and what social media platforms do they use?
  3. Develop a content strategy. What type of content will resonate with your target audience? Will you create original content, curate content, or a combination of both?
  4. Use social media automation tools to schedule posts in advance and save time. (See below for a list of social media automation tools you could choose from.)
  5. Engage with your audience by responding to comments and messages in a timely manner.
  6. Monitor social media analytics to track your progress and adjust your strategy accordingly.

7.    Use relevant hashtags and join relevant groups to expand your reach and connect with potential clients.

8.    Create an "About Us" page that your clients can relate to and make your contact information easy to find.

9.    Use social media advertising to target your ideal clients and drive traffic to your website.

10. Check out resources like the Home Business Jumpstart’s “How to Plan Your Social Media and Set it on Autopilot”.

One of the reasons many home business owners give for not using social media is that it’s time-consuming. It’s true it can be, but there are ways to save time and make posting regularly easier. Here are just a few tips:

  • Use social media automation software to schedule posts in advance.
  • Fill in the gaps in your marketing automation or CRM software with social media automation.
  • Batch your social media tasks to save time and increase efficiency.
  • Minimize distractions by turning off notifications and setting aside dedicated time for social media.
  • Map out your social media strategy in advance to avoid last-minute scrambling.
  • Use social media analytics to track your progress and adjust your strategy accordingly.
  • Repurpose content across different platforms to save time and increase reach.
  • Use templates and tools to create visually appealing posts quickly and easily.
  • Outsource social media tasks to a freelancer or agency to save time and focus on other aspects of your business.
  • Use social media management tools to monitor and respond to comments and messages in one place.

Remember, social media is all about being strategic. Big companies have the luxury of dedicated resources and time, home businesses need to be more agile, nimble, and creative. So, get creative and start using social media to find new clients for your business!
