Ebay News: More Seller Protections

Remember those council emails from eBay? Did you take them up on their offer? If you did, then your input from those council sessions have apparently been considered by eBay and they're making changes.

Jamie Iannone, CEO of eBay just announced they'll be making improvements to the platform for sellers. (Finally)

If you've been in a situation as a seller who hasn't received payment before for a listing, now eBay plans to help you get paid.

According to Iannone: “Changes have already been implemented to Fixed Price sales, where 99% of transactions are now paid upfront. And to help ensure that you get paid on Best Offer sales, we’ll soon start to ask buyers to provide a payment source at the time their offer is made. We’re evaluating similar solutions for Auctions in 2022.”

eBay is also working to extend protections to sellers for when buyers misuse the return process, for example, unfair "feedback when sellers decline a remorse return outside of their return policy."

eBay has done a lot to protect buyers on their platform but now it is nice to see they are working towards protecting sellers from the dark sides of eBay. I, for one am looking forward to the other solutions they have in mind.

Metazoo Movement is Real

If you're a fan of Rudy from Alpha Investments, you may already be aware that his custom Metazoo bundles are already selling on the secondary market for +$1000 a bundle.

The bundle was available for sale to Patreons July 30th for $499 and was jam packed with product:

  • 1st Edition Booster boxes (2x)
  • 1st Edition Theme Decks (2x)
  • 1st Edition Spell Book (1x)
  • 1st Edition Blister Booster Pack + Mothman Promo + Gold Coin (1x)
  • 1st Edition Release Event Deck (1x)
  • 1st Edition Release Day Holo Promo Card (1x)
  • Exclusive Rudy Sashquish Holo Card (1x)
  • Exclusive Rudy Wallstreet/ Alphastreet Playmat (1x)

Regardless of where you sit on the Metazoo debate, it seems Metazoo is still fetching for a high price. It's hard to tell right know whether this means the game has a strong player base or if we're seeing collectors speculate on Metazoo, but either way, we'll be watching to see how this plays out.

Rudy did comment on this patrons flipping product.

Too Many Grading Companies?

SMPratte has recently come out with a very interesting video discussing the grading card company landscape. CGC’s acquisition of WATA, new grading startups popping up every day, how long will these companies last and what do they have to do to survive the test of time?

Is "Stay the Course" Valid Advice for Pokemon Collectors?

Harry Rinker, a long time antiques collector and watcher of collecting markets, has written an article about collectibles and their not-so evergreen qualities.

Something that can never be overstated, this cardboard we love and collect can become worthless at any point in time, regardless of how confident we feel the market will graduate to becoming a stable and established market.

Pokemon is still a massively speculative market and may continue to stay speculative because, as Harry Rinker states, "evergreen is measured in centuries not decades." We know that in order for markets to stay alive over time, younger generations who were exposed to the collectible must enter the market when they are older and have income to purchase items, but what some collectors don't realize is the number of generations that need to enter to the market over time to keep it alive.

We can't just have two generations enter a market, and it's possible even three generations may not be sufficient to make a collecting category evergreen, according to Rinker.

Reading Harry Rinker's columns are like masterclasses in collectibles and antiques, so if you give his article a read, you won't regret it.

Castlevania NES

Final Price: $1,250,000

Private sale handled by www.MetropolisComics.com

The high end vintage video game market is continuing to boom through this summer as we see key games go for record prices.

As exciting as it is to see big ticket sales, there are many that are still skeptical and question the "organic" growth. It's hard to not wonder whether these prices are being propped up by "parties with incentive."

Either way, we'll continue to watch this market to see how it plays out and we'll also see who will be left holding the bag.
