It will soon be time for that end of year getaway. You’ll be your packing bags and suitcases for your New Year’s celebrations.

Whether you are heading to a tropical climate, or heading to an Airbnb on the beach for staycation vibes, natural fibre clothing can be ideal when you get there, but packing them can be a daunting task, especially when it involves linen, a fabric loved for its breathability and elegance but often cursed for its tendency to wrinkle.

However, with some savvy packing tips, you can enjoy a fuss-free holiday without worrying about crumpled linen outfits.

1. Roll, Don't Fold

The rolling technique is a game-changer for linen. Gently roll your linen garments instead of folding them. This method not only saves space in your luggage but also significantly reduces creasing.

2. Use Tissue Paper

 For added protection against wrinkles, lay a sheet of tissue wrapping paper on your linen garment before rolling it. The tissue paper acts as a buffer, minimizing friction and hence, wrinkles. Using light white or colour-free sheets will ensure no staining should they get wet.

3. Pack Smartly

Place heavier items at the bottom of your suitcase and lighter, more delicate items like linen at the top. This arrangement prevents your linen clothes from getting squashed under the weight of other belongings.

4. Embrace the Wrinkles

Linen lovers know how to go with the flow. Linen's natural texture is meant to be slightly wrinkled. Embrace this characteristic! Choose styles and cuts that look chic with a bit of natural crease. True linen becomes softer with time and wrinkles become less-pronounced with every wash.

5. Unpack Immediately

 Once you reach your destination, unpack your linen clothes and hang them up. Gravity will help pull out some of the wrinkles

6. Use a Steamer

A mini-travel steamer is a smart buy. Just remember your adapter plugs. If available, use a handheld steamer to smooth out stubborn wrinkles. It's gentler than an iron and works wonderfully on linen. I’ve found a sprinkle of water and a hotel hair dryer can work in a pinch.
