Do Evites Really Make a Difference?

Hello there eco Mummas!

Do you remember when you were a kid, party invites were always printed on paper and handed out? Maybe you received a lovingly hand drawn invitation or perhaps your Mum splurged on one of those pads of fancy party invitations...

The things is, paper invitations need, well, paper! They need to be manufactured, printed, transported to shops, possibly sent out in envelopes if its a really fancy party...

The average tree trunk milled for paper produces about 10,000 A4 or Letter size sheets. Now, this sounds like a lot, right? Until you start thinking about the number of parties happening all around the world on any given day. For example, in a major city of over 1 million people, there could easily be 500,000 people that have one party every year (and that's being pretty conservative...). That averages out to over 9,500 parties EVERY weekend.

Let's be conservative again and say only ten guests are invited to each party. So, 95,000 guests are going to a party on any given weekend. If ALL of those guests received a PAPER invitation, that's 95,000 paper invitations being distributed every week!!! I'm going to say one sheet of A4 paper would provide two invitations, so 47,500 sheets of paper are required to meet the paper invitation needs of ONE weekend's worth of parties.

MORE THAN FOUR TREES WORTH OF PAPER EVERY WEEKEND!!!

Sheesh. That escalated quickly didn't it?

Happily, these days you can switch to a paperless, digital invitation, also known as an evite. Available in all kinds of themes and colour schemes, evites are easily edited and sent on your mobile device. Plus, you're saving the trees - win-win!!

Will you go digital for your next party invite?

Ciao for now,
