Simple Homemade Party Food Classics

Well hey there!

As we slowly ease into Winter here in Australia, parties might not be at the forefront of your mind, unlike the heady days of Summer. But, plenty of people are born in Winter, one of my kiddos included, so parties are definitely still on!

One of the ways you can reduce your party waste is by making your party snacks at home - less packaging and processing waste. Though if you're not a natural in the kitchen, this can seem like a daunting task. If this is you, I'm here to help you out with some suggestions for simple, homemade, party food classics.

imageIf you grew up in Australia, chances are every party you ever went to as a kid offered fairy bread!! Fairy bread is possibly the least nutritious thing you will ever consume in your life, but hey, its a party right? If you grew up elsewhere and missed out on this sugar filled delight, its slices of white bread, buttered and then COVERED in 100s and 1000s (also known as sprinkles). I mean, delicious, right? Plus, you can't go wrong with this recipe, unless you decide to use wholemeal bread to add a touch of healthiness (don't do that).

Next on the list - popcorn! Rather than purchasing premade popcorn from the shops or the microwavable popcorn bags, get yourself some popcorn kernels and make your own. You can even do a few different flavour additions once your popcorn is made, depending on how you like it. Personally I am a buttery, salty, popcorn fan. My youngest kiddo, however, likes a salty-sweet popcorn... Just make sure you don't overdo it and end up like the Swedish Chef from The Muppets! Clearly another reason why microwave popcorn is a bad idea, lol.

Now, this might be the EASIEST party food idea ever - a good old fruit platter! Get yourself a nice variety of in season fruit, slice it up and arrange it on a plate. Surely nothing could be simpler. If you want to get all fancy like, you could add a yoghurt and honey dipping sauce...

For those of you that are more adventurous in the kitchen, why not try some homemade sausage rolls, cupcakes or melting moments. Mmm-mmm-mmm!

I hope this inspires you to do some homebaking for your next party or celebration. Also, I'd love to know, what are your go to party food favourites? Hit reply and let me know!

Until next time,

Michelle
