What I love about shifters

Hello, Darlings!
I hope you're all having a wonderful August (and looking forward to September)!
I'm spending today writing in my basement. It's so fun to me to hear where and how other writers like to create. For me, I have a few spaces I love. Sometimes, I'll sprawl out on my living room floor. Sometimes I write in bed. I have an office/guest room I write in quite a bit. Of course, I also have a cozy corner of my basement that I just love.
The best part?
The artwork!
(Have you seen the Barbie movie? Did you love it? Hate it? Tell me!)
Another recent highlight, aside from getting to write, was going to dinner with Jack!
(Think he had fun?)
I've also been thinking a lot about my writing journey and career. I recently put together a reading order for my books. Full disclosure: it's not done yet! I have about 50 more books to add to the list! One thing I noticed when I was working on the list was just how many shifter books I've written, and of course, I started to think about why.
I love writing.
Y'all know I write everything from pirates to cowboys to monsters to villains to contemporary to vampires.
So, why do I have so many shifter books?
For me, I think part of the fun of writing a shapeshifter romance is just how over-the-top and dramatic these stories can be. In real life, I'm kind of no-nonsense. I don't have a lot of drama in my life. I'm pretty calm, and I tend to have my shit together. So, for me, part of the fun of writing a shifter romance is throwing myself into a space where everything can be very dramatic, very crazy, and very wild.
I mean, for example, my Dragon Isle series was just FUN to write. An island filled with dragons who have a BDSM club? Um, YES. And then, of course, I've got Shifters of Rawr County. Fake relationships where your partner turns into a lion? Who wouldn't want to experience that?
I also really love just how broody and wild shifters can be. Especially in my earlier works, my shifters are passionate enough to destroy the enemies of the person they love. (You'll get to see some of that in Dragon Double Crossed, too!) I also just really love the idea of fated mates.
Finding someone you can love forever?
Yeah, it's kind of romantic. :)
Love,
Sophie
