Coach,
Super Bowl weekend is always exciting and brings up memories of past Super Bowls. Today we share insight from five Super Bowl Champion coaches.
Super Bowl Champion XLVIII - Dan Quinn
Standards are what will drive success. Coach Quinn explains how “the standard” gives every member of the team a “go-to” as far as how to approach a teammate when something is not being done the right way as they have defined it. They push each other to be the best they can be. He explains it here (click on image for video):
Super Bowl Champion XLIV - Sean Payton
Our pedigree is developed by the decisions we make. Coach Payton points out that many times young coaches are in a race to get a title and take the wrong opportunities. A title or a little more money is not nearly as important as being in a winning environment with people you can learn and grow with.
He shared how he went with Bill Parcells without knowing what his title would be or how much he would be paid. He just wanted to go because he understood the opportunity.
Coach Payton points out that those decisions and opportunities exist at every level. The opportunities to learn are invaluable, and for Payton those decisions paid off in his career.
When you can work under a winning successful coach it can pay off greatly down the road. He shares these ideas in this video (click on image for video).
Super Bowl Champion LIV - Eric Bieniemy
Eric Bieniemy, Offensive Coordinator KC, believes four disciplines need to be maintained if you want to be a coordinator or head coach. Coach Bienemy explains how important it is to have clarity and cohesiveness if you want to lead a unit or team. (Click image for video)

Super Bowl Champion XLII & XLVI - Mike Sullivan
You will be spending plenty of time in the film room with your QB, so teach him to do it right. Pittsburgh Steelers QB Coach Mike Sullivan discusses the importance of teaching your QB how to break down various high zones, high man and zone pressure during film. He illustrates how to translate game film study into the field from this presentation at Lauren’s First and Goal. Here he is explaining how to teach 1-High (click on image for video):
Super Bowl Champion XXXVI, XXXVIII, XXXIX, XLIX, LI, LIII - Dante Scarnecchia
We are in an era where our young people want to have a voice. They want to be able to make suggestions and have input and it is an important part of creating buy-in. Coach Scarnecchia shares a story of how he handle this with Matt Light who had to block Dwight Freeney in a game. Coach Scarnecchia contemplated the suggestion and it became “The Matt Light Rule.” Coach points out that your guys who are out their playing can be your greatest source of information to help your team (click on image for video):
