Coach ,
Never just randomly call plays... Call the game. Understanding HOW to attack a front is the first step for any successful Play Caller.
Today’s 12 days of Christmas free course is from former FBS Offensive Coordinator Jeff Mullen. Most recently at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Mullen served as the offensive coordinator from 2011-2017. Prior to that, Mullen was offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at West Virginia from 2008-2010.
Jeff Mullen’s course is designed to help you easily Identify Defense.
For Mullen it comes down to:
- "The Box", and the appropriate blocking angles for certain plays.
- "The Triangle", which will define the "Run Fit" player.
- The key to any successful play call is to first call a play AWAY from the "Run Fit" player, and then design a play with the best blocking angles for your offensive line to execute.
DEFINE THE BOX: The box is the 6 players responsible for the A, B and C gaps.
The remaining players in red are the TRIANGLE. The key then is to run or throw away from the tighter of the two D-Gap defenders.
Mullen explains how all of these come together in the course which is available for FREE.
He’s also put together a four-course bundle to give the Fundamentals at all four offensive positions with the tempo tools to attack a defense, and the drills and organization for constructing every practice. The course is available here.
Coach Mullen is sharing all of the knowledge he’s learned in coaching the game at a high level in his Big “O” System. Expect to see much more from him on CoachTube in 2021.
Always be growing,
Coach Grabowski
