Looking forward to game planning this weekend?

Coach ,
It’s a question I get asked about all the time - How do you game plan during the season? With that question, there’s a time I can look back on and remember some long weekends.
Early in my coaching career, weekends seemed like a grind. We didn’t have our thought process streamlined, and therefore we worked harder not smarter. Eventually, we learned and we flipped that to working smarter not harder.
I had the ability to bring Jason Mohns, 6-in-a-row state champion from Arizona, onto our free Virtual Coaching Summit this past spring. I have known Jason for four years now, as well as seeing him speak at Tony Franklin’s OC Magic in Texas. Jason was the lone non-FBS coach to speak, but may have had the most glowing comments about his ability as a coach.
In the Virtual Summit, Jason broke down his in season process explaining the work flow and responsibilities of each coach as well as the details of how they get to their final product and set their offense up for success.
Here is an example of dividing up staff responsibility:
Mohns detailed exactly how they categorized and organized their scout film so that they could quickly find the answers they need.
In this short video, Mohns covers exactly what goes into their game plan:
Mohns explains how his game plan and call sheet, including his “dude” script, as well as how all are organized and how they script that into practice. Mohns covers his opening script in detail and illustrates it with video.
Mohns finishes his presentation by walking you through a game plan and his thought process as he called the 2018 state championship game.
Other questions answered:
- Do you ever come off your opening script?
- Do you carry plays over into different categories?
- How and when do you put together the call sheet?
Today is Wednesday. The hay is in the barn after practice today, but I can promise the hour you spend on this course today or tomorrow will pay dividends in making this weekend much smoother for you. Check it out!
To your success.
Keith
