3 Fundamentals Truths to Reflect on Before Camp

Jul 31, 2022 6:26 pm

Coach ,

The fundamentals and techniques developed by the drills we put together for every position will make or break our offense, defense, or special teams.

However, for every position to develop, there are some fundamental truths which, if embraced, can help achieve success on the field.

I searched through our library of clinics and pulled out three that are worth reflecting on before we head into camp.

Here are 3 Tips for Developing Your Individual Unit:

#1) From Army Head Coach Jeff Monken - No Missed Assignments or Foolish Penalties

The best plans revolve around controlling the controllables, and that’s exactly what Coach Monken discusses here (click on image for video):

#2) From Baylor Head Coach Dave Aranda - Prepare to Win by Being Fundamentally Sound

The say culture beats scheme, but nothing beats being fundamentally sound on the field. Coach Aranda explains why this is such a high priority for the Baylor Bears (click on image for video):

#3) From Alabama Head Coach Nick Saban - Understanding How to Use Discipline

We can change people because we have something that they want to do. It starts by sitting them down and understanding exactly what their goals and expectations are. Coach Saban explains it here (click on image for video):

With a focus on building your individual position this season, it’s never too late to get resources on your shelf to have at your fingertips when you need to develop a technique or solve a problem with your position group.

With that in mind, I wanted to share these resources which may help you achieve your objectives as a coach this season.

Today’s tight ends align in multiple positions, block, catch, and even run the ball. Coaching all of those skill sets requires a knowledgeable and organized position coach. This bundle includes 6 presentations from coaches from Nevada, Rice, FIU, Monmouth and the Miami Dolphins as well as a seminar from Brian Baldinger.

And we had very positive response from coaches on these resources designed for Coordinators:

Offensive Coordinator School - 19 presentations covering every aspect of being an offensive coordinator from building an identity to making great calls on game day.

Defensive Coordinator School - 21 presentations covering every aspect from designing a philosophy, planning practice, and games, and play calling.

Special Teams Coordinator School - 11 presentations covering philosophy and organization of every unit and the skills and drills to develop them.

It’s that time of year when we can cue up the “feels like Christmas” tweets as the anticipation of starting camp for any coach comes to its peak. We have prepared our players and ourselves for this opportunity since last December.

Be sure to go into the season armed with the resources that can help you through any sticking points and keep your players and units as well as yourself performing to the best of your abilities.

Always be growing!
