Coach -
Our CoachesClinic Team of the week is Brownsburg High School in Indiana. Brownsburg won a big game last week against #1 ranked Westfield High School. The win put the Bulldogs in the top spot in Indiana.
The Bulldogs are led by John Hart. Coach Hart has been a head coach for over 30 years in multiple programs with a 332-97 career record. He got his first head coaching job at just 22 years old. He has multiple State Championship Titles and is known for his ability to turn programs around.
He is in his 9th year at Brownsburg with a record of 75-22. He’s coached in both indiana and Illinois and was inducted into the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2021.
For the Bulldogs, it’s a total team effort in all three phases.
The offense is led by offensive coordinator JT Whitaker. The Bulldogs average 34.5 points per game with their two quarterback system. Read about it here. Senior Iosua Stevens and sophomore Oscar Frye split time and it creates a dynamic offense built around each of their skill sets.
Defensive coordinator and Casey Popenfoose has the Bulldogs holding opponents to just 14.2 points per game. Outside Linebacker Alex Burke leads the team with 6.8 tackles per game and has 3.5 sacks on the season.
Special teams coordinator Dan Schwanekamp’s kick off unit came up big with a 94-yard kickoff by sophomore Branden Sharpe. The return put Brownsburg ahead 14-13 going into the fourth quarter with momentum.
Coach Hart has been successful at several programs. For him it begins with his philosophy of having everyone on board and aligned. He talks about how he approaches taking over a program and changing the culture in this video:
Congratulations to Coach Hart and the Bulldogs on being recognized as our Team of the Week!
Good luck to everyone this weekend!
