It’s tough to be in the Top 25 without a strong offensive line, 

Garrett Tujague brings a wealth of experience and proven success to NC State as their new offensive line coach. With 30 years in the coaching field, including six as a head coach, Tujague has a track record of developing top-tier offensive lines. 

He spent seven years at Virginia, where his units were pivotal in the success of quarterbacks like Brennan Armstrong, Bryce Perkins, and Kurt Benkert. His offensive lines helped Virginia's offense achieve over 5,000 yards in multiple seasons and set school records for passing yards and total offense.

Under his guidance, players like center Olusegun Oluwatimi earned All-American honors, and his offensive lines consistently ranked among the best in the ACC and the nation in key statistical categories. Tujague's tenure at BYU and College of the Canyons further highlights his ability to develop talent and lead successful programs.

As NC State aims to climb the rankings in the 2024 season, the success of their offensive line under Tujague will be crucial. His expertise and the ability to mold a cohesive, powerful offensive front could be the key component in the Wolf Pack's pursuit of excellence.

Season Preview Capsule

NC State football has a history of being close to greatness, but not quite reaching it. They've never had a 10-win season and haven't played in the ACC Championship Game since its creation in 2005. Coach Dave Doeren's teams have consistently come close, with four 9-win seasons and three 8-win seasons in his 11 years. 

This year's team has a chance to break through with a strong offense led by transfer quarterback Grayson McCall and a defense that reloads despite losing some key players. The offensive line is anchored by All-American Anthony Belton and the defensive line remains a force. There are questions at linebacker, but the team is optimistic about its chances for a special season.

Offense:

• Strong Offensive Line: Anchored by All-American Anthony Belton with 3 other returning starters.
• Improved Passing Attack: Transfer QB Grayson McCall with accuracy and mobility, plus experienced receivers like Kevin Concepcion and Dacari Collins.
• Potential Boost in Running Game: Addition of transfer RB Jordan Waters with proven rushing ability.

Defense:

• Elite Defensive Line: Davin Vann and Travail Price anchor a strong unit.
• Solid Secondary: Aydan White as a top corner and depth added through the transfer portal (Ja’Had Carter).
• Experience and Creativity: Despite losing key linebackers, Caden Fordham will lead a creative defensive scheme.

Clinic: Gap Scheme Drills for OL

The first month of the season presents a tough challenge for the Wolf Pack, but this difficult path could lead to their success. The offensive line plays a crucial role in this endeavor. With a new quarterback, establishing trust and timing early in the season is essential. Facing Tennessee and Clemson within the first four games offers significant momentum opportunities. Ensuring Grayson McCall's comfort within the system and behind the offensive line will be key to their success.

A strong run game will be essential. By adhering to the teachings from camp and spring, the offensive line can create running lanes, reducing pressure and increasing comfort. Having an All-American on the line and a veteran group enhances their chances. This season offers the opportunity to win 10 games and establish a precedent for success. Base techniques and rules create an efficient run game that works against any front. Teaching rules over assignments helps the offensive line understand teammate reactions to stunts and uncommon looks. This approach provides more solutions by building off basic, applicable rules. As a result, executing assignments becomes easier and almost instinctive, like muscle memory. Coach Tujague explains here:

These drills help position individuals correctly and allow coaches to focus on body alignment, with the sled's movement indicating any issues.
