Coach ,
The season is upon us and it’s an exciting time as we get ready to kick the ball off for 2022!
The cliche is “culture eats strategy.” However, culture is not static. It’s dynamic, constantly changing and needing attention. We will get into some strategy later this week.
With that in mind, here are three important things that can help your team win this season by keeping your culture strong from Terry Joseph, Jeff Traylor and Bill Snyder.
#1) Can They? Will They?
It starts with picking your players, especially the starters. Jeff Traylor’s approach begins with this. You can effect the “Will They” much more than the “Can They.” That is 100% about getting and keeping your culture right.
#2) They Know and They Want
All players want feedback. They want it packaged a certain way. How you do the feedback will keep your culture strong. It is critical! For buy-in to occur, they will want a voice. Texas Defensive Pass Game Coordinator Terry Jseph explains it here (click on image for video):
#3) Solve problems- deal with unmet expectations
As hard as we work on creating a strong culture, giving feedback and empowering players to take ownership, we will ultimately have to deal with a player having unmet expectations. Being sure we know how we will deal with that is important and Hall of Fame Coach Bill Snyder explains his philosophy (click on image for video):

Every coach wants their player to reach their maximum potential. It starts with the relationships and continues with communication and problem-solving.
The tips from these coaches provide some food for thought on how to be ready for the unknowns that will come up over the course of the fall.
It pays off to have some of those answers prepared so you can react and keep things moving forward in a positive direction.
Always be growing!
