QB Development is a Year Round Process

Coach ,

Whether your QB is a football only guy or he plays multiple sports, there is always a way for him to be working on his craft at the quarterback position.

Today we take a look at three ideas to get you started on developing your QB1 for this next season.

Recognizing Coverage

Becoming good at reading a coverage is getting enough repetitions at it so that the process is sped up.  A QB doesn’t need to get his whole receiver core together to rep it.  In fact, he doesnt need anyone running.  Here is a great drill from Michigan QB Coach Kirk Campbell which can be adapted to your concepts with the various coverages you see.

Confidence Comes From Accuracy

Confidence is certainly you want your QB possessing as you get into your next season.  Vandy Offensive Coordinator Joey Lynch asserts that confidence will come through being accurate.  That is certainly true.  Nothing boosts a QB’s ego like a perfectly thrown ball that is on target.  Coach Lynch shares his thoughts on developing accuracy in this video:

Two Umbrellas of Movement

Co-OC and QB Coach at Toledo Robert Weiner believes there are two umbrellas covering the movement that a QB must execute in the pocket.  He calls those “Slides” and “Spacing.” In developing his QB’s he has 4 slides he uses, and 1 spacing movement.  Teaching your QB the movements that really matter will make a huge difference as Coach Weiner points out in this video:
