It’s another Saturday in college football and a lot is on the line across the country. Caleb Hopkins breaks down another match-up of CoachesClinic foes. Enjoy!

This week, we head to the west coast for a Mountain West conference game that will have championship implications. The Nevada Wolfpack takes on #22 San Diego State to see who will win the division.

San Diego State University Aztecs (8-1)

The Aztec defense has been outstanding so far this season. Defensive lineman Cameron Thomas is 2nd on the team in total tackles (47) and 6.5 sacks on the season. Only allowing 16.2 points a game, they look to keep the momentum churning in their favor after their win against Hawaii. 

Defensive line coach Jordan Thomas gives you a pass rush drill ‘Thumbs’ which utilizes the Tackle and Defensive End, having the DE wrap underneath the tackle after selling the rush in this video:.

University of Nevada-Reno (7-2)

Matt Mumme, son of Hal Mumme, creator of the Air Raid offense, is the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Wolfpack. The two back variations he uses are one of his favorites especially with running backs Toa Taua and Devonte Lee coming out of the backfield on a swing and a 4 yard check down.

On the outside against cover 3, the receivers sit at about 10 yards. If not, full-on vertical route looking for the end zone.

The Wolfpack special teams group are planning to flip the field and pin the Aztecs deep in their own territory. Special teams coordinator Thomas Sheffield teaches his punt and kickoff unit to use the high wall technique, putting themselves between cover man and returner, never breaking stride. 

This is a great technique to beat penalties, especially the block in the back every STC dreads.
