Coach -
We continue our countdown to the C.O.O.L. Clinic (May 15-17), where the game's top minds in offensive line play take center stage.
Today, we focus on a powerful message from Andy Reid on why O-line coaches are uniquely built to become great head coaches…
Built for the Job: Why O-Line Coaches Make Elite Head Coaches
Andy Reid didn’t come to the C.O.O.L. Clinic to talk theory—he came to speak truth. In a room full of offensive line coaches, he made it clear: you’re the backbone of the team, and you're built to lead the whole damn thing.
Offensive line coaches understand what most don’t: how to push players past their limits, how to unify five into one, and how to lead with humility and toughness when nobody’s watching. Reid didn’t just say O-line coaches can be great head coaches—he explained why they’re already doing it in plain sight.
“We know how to reach the core of men while getting them to reach their potential.”
While other position groups look for matchups or flash, O-line coaches build trust, repetition, and execution under pressure. They don’t need credit. They need cohesion. They get the job done, whether anyone notices or not.
“We’ve got five guys that have got to dance together... That dance has got to be perfect.”
Reid pointed out what every O-line coach knows but rarely says out loud: you live in a world nobody else really understands. You're part protector, part psychologist, part builder of belief—and you grind with your guys until the work speaks for itself.
“We don’t expect or need compliments... We just kind of go.”
O-line coaches aren’t just ready to lead—they’ve been leading. Reid’s message was simple: stop waiting for permission to be the head coach. You already know what it takes.
