Wear Them Down, Win the 4th Quarter

South Carolina enters 2025 determined to turn grit into wins in the trenches. Under Shane Beamer, the Gamecocks have built their reputation on effort and toughness, but to survive the SEC gauntlet, that toughness has to translate snap after snap—especially up front. That’s where OL coach Lonnie Teasley’s approach comes in.
Video: Moment of Truth
Teasley’s teaching is simple in philosophy but relentless in execution: once you get your fit, you never stop working it. Whether it’s at the line of scrimmage or on a linebacker in space, the goal is to keep the lower body accelerating, open the hips to stay connected, and finish through the whistle.
Even if it’s “only” a three-yard run, those reps take a toll. By the fourth quarter, defenders who’ve been leaning against 300-plus pounds all game start to wear down—and that’s when big plays open up.
He stresses that finishing isn’t just about driving a man off the ball—it’s about staying engaged after the peak of the block, keeping hands locked in, and adjusting body position so the defender can’t escape. First level, second level, doesn’t matter—the standard is the same.
2025 Outlook:
South Carolina’s success this fall will hinge on that same finish mentality. With SEC play offering no breathers, the Gamecocks’ ability to own the line late in games could be the difference between a mid-tier bowl and a push toward the league’s upper half.
